  1. I would just like to be able to drive on NYC roadways that don’t have potholes/sinkholes and ditches that TEAR up my Low-Pro tires

    Ah so you guys are saying that b/c of people protesting for whatever their M.O. is – these big scale projects get derailed?
    Interesting -I hadn’t really thought of it like that.

  2. m4l:

    A. Sounds like dave and DH are coming to Bushwick with me to witness me collect on your bet. And you said NOTHING about after dark.

    (Though I stupidly and unintentionally walked through the Gowanus and Wyckoff houses around midnight over the Summer in search of a gathering venue with a pool table on 3rd Avenue.)

    2. Roger the Brooklyn Heights house. I got your follow-up email. Happy to buy it together – that way I don’t end up with you as my deadbeat tenant. 🙂

  3. Lech;

    It’s not a total loss:

    -East river 63rd Street tunnel project so that LIRR can go into Grand Central;

    -Expansion of Stewart Airport near Newburgh, NY, to serve as metro area’s 4th airport.

    -third water tunnel to NYC (actually the biggest public works project in the world).

    -as I wrote above, off-shore wind turbines are going up off Texas coast. Same projects are mired in NIMBY’ism on east coast (by the same people who will crow about how “green” they love to be).

  4. Denton: If we can’t even build a stadium in Brooklyn without getting dragged into mediocrity by Nimbyism we’re not going to be able to think bigger.

    Big interesting projects I’m aware of:

    1. Bridge to replace roadway over Hoover Dam (major project, actually pretty damn cool, very big, but in the middle of the desert on gov’t land so no Daniel Goldsteins to worry about).

    2. Big offshore wind power projects. Nimbys in Massachusetts trying to kill it up there. Another proposal for Eastern seaboard from NJ to the Carolinas that I’ve seen looked pretty interesting.

    3. Another NY-NJ tunnel. Dead for the moment. Besides who wants more people from New Jersey in Manhattan.

    Anything else anyone can think of? Any big ports or airports or bridges or railways in the works?

  5. “Face it. Folks on the East Coast talk a good game. That’s all it is, however: talk”

    California = poster child for this kind of stuff. Donatella would know / remember better but their mismanagement of the power market earlier this decade was legendary.

  6. “CGar, after you do that walk in bushwick, I’ll have my $$$ ready for my half of that BK House”

    You can count on my doing this in the next couple of weeks. This Saturday prolly won’t work, but a crisp fall day will be perfect. Anywhere in particular you want me to walk on Broadway in Bushwick? And be prepared to put your down payment money where your mouth is!!! (Or at least make some progress as my Wingman.)
