  1. benson, better head back to the mideast again and restart those peace talks because I am about to partly agree with you. I’ve attached two links to William Saletan’s commentary on slate, which I think gets this just about right. I think the lefty blogosphere and npr botched this and I think the comparison to the right’s attack on Shirley Sharrod is apt. The lesson in my mind, both for news outlets (both npr and the for profit media that botched and didn’t dig deeper into the Sharrod story) and for government, is DON’T CAVE TO THE EFFIN BLOGOSPHERE!! Do your homework before you act.

Meanwhile, the amount of government funding for NPR is miniscule these days. It’s mostly member supported and privately underwritten.

  2. [spoken in a low, measured, careful voice that sounds just a tiny bit stoned and very know it all]

“I’m Ira Glass. Today, I’m talking to a group of second graders in Vermont. They are fingerpainting scenes of the Haiti earthquake, which they will sell to raise funds for disaster relief.”

He sounds WICKED smart when he says that, right?

    OK, take two:

“I’m Glenn Beck. Today, I’m talking to a group of second graders at a Sunday school in Texas. They are fingerpainting scenes of the Haiti earthquake, which they will sell to raise funds for disaster relief.”

You think he sounds retarded, right? You do!!!!! Admit it, you bloody liberal fraud!!! You think random things you hear on NPR sounds smart just because (1) they have a subtle liberal bent and (2) they talk like they’re on valium.

All humans are frauds. The only honest thing to do is just to admit that you’re a fraud and be a better fraud than everyone else.

  3. Greg Gutfeld had the best take on this whole NPR issue. He opposes the calls for defunding of NPR. He believes that the funding should be continued, so that people can have a good example of what subsidized failure looks like (at a fraction of the cost of similiar fiascos like Amtrak or the post office).
