“denton, do you hold that against her? you’ve said it yourself that school isn’t everything to everyone.”
hey legion, not having any paper myself, I generally don’t hold that against anyone. But since you said to compare her to SP, I did. And it’s not so much of a lack of degree, it’s the flitting around.
The DOE does not do what’s in the contract to get rid of bad teachers. For instance, all those teachers in the Rubber Room–the DOE never scheduled hearings for them, so they sat there and collected their salaries.
There are procedures in the union contract that the union and the city agreed to. But the city can’t be bothered with documenting bad teachers so it just demonizes all teachers.
My daughter went to an excellent elementary school in Chinatown (I know, Chinatown = motivated families) where the principal is severely penalized because her excellent teaching staff makes relatively high salaries because they have advanced degrees and years of service. Principals are encouraged to figure out a way to lay off senior teachers (good or bad, but the really good teachers are senior because they have the experience, duh!) because they can get 2 newbies for the cost of one senior teacher.
This principal believes (and I do too, if you have to make the choice) that a good teacher with 40 students is better than a shitty teacher with 10 students. But it’s pretty tough when a third-grade class has 40 students, no thanks to the DOE. And the families at the school are mostly poor (over 70 percent free-lunch-eligible) and can’t afford to raise money to pay for aides, like wealthier schools.
This school always gets an A on its report card. But the DOE doesn’t make it easy.
also if poor kids were sent away to education camps with little to no contact with their families back home we’d have many many many smarter kids. of course that sounds like an awful idea, but you know it would work.
these education camps would be very nice tho. lots of free time, fun activities, socialization, etc etc. they can go home to visit their families (monitored) during the holidays in 4th grade, 8th grade, and 11th.
“Obama’s got a degree and look where that’s gotten us.”
hah dibs, and Bush was the MBA president that was gonna run the country ‘like a business’. Guess the red ink on the balance sheet didn’t bother him.
jessi,
lol,
I think the cap and trade kids idea might work.
responsible parenting should be a new Constitutional Amendment! ;o)
gotta go, good night all.

“Can we get of Canada’s dick?”
I’m in Canada most of the time & never knew anyone was on my dick. Shame.
