  1. ET…you can mix all that by hand.

    Make the cakes in the bottom of a juice glas or a whiskey glass…surely you have those.

    The inability to innovate or think outside the box will be a stone around your neck forever.

  2. “By Montrose Morris on October 19, 2010 12:02 PM

    Speculating as to whether Africans, Native Americans, or anyone else would have done the same thing is just speculation, and a rather wasteful intellectual fiction.”

    Not at all. Teaching the “different point of view”, as you put it, in my experience is little more than a parade of horribles and blaming Europeans (and whites in general) for all sorts of things. But in any event once you pass judgments on colonizers for what they did it is *absolutely* fair and appropriate to speculate as to whether those who were colonized would be done the same if given the opportunity. The second you pass judgment like that, it is absolutely fair to claim that the other guy would have done the same thing in a second if given the resources. And, frankly, I think that trying to discredit this type of thinking as a “wasteful intellectual fiction” smacks of bullying out an alternative viewpoint just because it disagrees with your own. How can you possibly say that this claim is invalid? And if you can’t say it’s invalid, how can you possibly teach the “different viewpoint” of blaming Europeans for the world’s ills without recognizing this as a possibility? This is why I find those who teach your alternative viewpoint to be intellectually dishonest.

    Too true. Cubicle slaves.

  4. “Ishtar;

    The fact that you try to refute my statement by referring to my race, rather than proving me wrong with some example or fact, demonstrates that indeed you don’t have an argument to make.”

    I refuse to get into an “argument” with someone who compares injustices. It’s beyond silly, IMO. I don’t see the institutional discrimination established in this country as being any different from the scenarios you mentioned. Blatant or hidden should matter none. It is all wrong.

  6. “We have Montrose stating that the pre-colonial Indian tribes didn’t engage in war-like behavior”

    Benson, can’t you read? I NEVER SAID THAT. Show me where I did.

    “threads like the one above is why the Left continues to marginalize itself. I don’t know what to call it: self-hate, moral equivalence run wild, hate for America’s moral authority, whatever. Most folks see it, and don’t like it.”

    Your reading comprehension is NIL. We were having a nice intellectual discussion on a speculative topic, and you have to make it into some kind of left wing anti-American conspiracy. That is pure and utter bullsh*t.
