Before I begin, a confession…I’ve been having serious trouble identifying Paladino’s platform, as everything out there seems to be a bunch of crap. So yes, I had to resort to the interwebs for information. Based on what I read, here’s what I think of Paladino’s platform (if it is in fact his actual platform)
1. Cutting 20 billion from the Medicaid Budget: Cutting back on healthcare for the state’s super poor (have you all actually looked at the ridiculously low income requirements to receive Medicaid in NY?) is a bad idea. They already are subsisting on poverty level incomes and reducing their aid won’t actually help anyone.
2. Eliminating state Cap Gains taxes and franchise taxes: Um, we are already broke…why are we considering tax breaks?
3. Standing up to the unions: All for it, if you can actually do it and achieve something here. Have at it.
4. Dismantling the MTA: My knee jerk reaction would be to cheer at this, but I need details on what would replace it/how things would be run before I agree or disagree on this.
5. His statement re gays: I trust I don’t actually have to tell you all what I think about such comments.
6. Term limits for electeds: All for it. Most pols claim they are, too, until their time is up and they don’t wanna share the toy. See Bloomberg.
7. Repeal of the NYS Assault Weapons ban: Ridiculous. Unless you are in Afghanistan/Iraq, etc. fighting for this country’s army, WTF do you need an assault weapon for? To roll with your homies down Flatbush Ave? Methinks not.
8. The proposal to use eminent domain to stop the build of the Islamic Cultural Center downtown: So ridiculous that it barely even deserves a thought-out response.
i didn’t write that, someone from NY times comments did. but its pretty much how i feel about the situation. and i am not really surprised by DIBS’ indifference- he is basically just a capitalist pig, he’s a one issue voter more or less.
We all knew you could’t write that. it’s beyond you grade of education. It also shows a lack of understanding of free speech. Surprised it came out of the mouths of the NY Times liberals!!!!!!!!!!
As far as calling me a capitalist-pig, I wear that badge with honor but a lowlife scumbag moron like you shouldn’t be calling people names.
Dibs, i thought so! well I went to both of their websites and got a true sense of just how ineffective Paladino would be if elected. He justs goes on and on about reducing taxes by 10% – but doesn’t go into who’s taxes? Cuomo at least supports cutting income increases for all state employees for 1 year as part of an emergency plan. He also believes that state gov’t is way too big and wants to reduce it by 20%. All paladino does on his website is make a statement like this” First, to stop the bleeding right away, I will implement a broad cap on state spending and freeze hiring. Andrew Cuomo says he wants to slow State spending – in human language – he wants to increase spending. I want to cut it.”
Really – in “Human Language” -as opposed to the language of ailens that some of us speak??!?!?!
Not likely, dh. besides, Obama is digging a deeper grave right now with the criticism of the Chamber Of Commerce.
Democratic politicians that pay lip service to gay rights without actually doing anything are more repugnant than a guy who states that, because of his religious beliefs, he does not condone their lifestyle.
free speeech, dh. You lefties seem to have forgotten about that. Remember where the word “Republican” originates from.

Dave, Silver is in power because he offers Democrats LOTS of carrots and sticks. He is very good at that. Paladino has not said anything about how he will depose Silver–I just don’t see it.

Would you let a homophobic doctor save your child in emergency surgery?
Your answer to that should nicely frame my point: you have to prioritize your issues.
“This type of speech is reprehensible and cannot be accepted in a progressive, democratic society.”
Do a google search on US Constitution. Ever heard of it before????

“Trust me, paladino will find a way to get rid of Silver by offering the democrats some carrot or stick. It won’t take much.”
Silver seems pretty wedged in, he even has his own hand-drawn constitutency.
