“always derogatory remarks about my “work wives” (yes, yes, my behavior is the same off the OT) and my being “chatty Cathy” (not to mention her public remarks about my “watching my diet like a woman”).”
She’s pushing it from a HR standpoint. Always a unpalatable thing to do but at some point you need to bring them in.
Cgar, surely, after working for such a large corporation as McDonalds, you’ll easily make a switch to another place, say Burger King or Wendys or maybe a little different institution like NY Burger and Co. After all, it’s all the same – flipping burgers and such. You should start looking around again :o)
Lech, I am starting to keep track of your tactics:
1. Pounce on a completely boring topic (community colleges) and then make statements that everybody who knows your style expect to be controversial but really aren’t. Then point out that everyone is agreeing with you.
2. “don’t read between the lines you kind of fuck them a little.”
When it’s complete, which I suspect might be a long time from now, I will publish it with a snazzy title like “The Art of Jackal” by Sun Tzu II, and retire to Costa Rica on the royalties.
I had a similar experience and rectified it as much as I could by doing the following: As soon as she asks you to do something, get up and visibly start doing it.
Like, “CGar, five McChickens, sans mayo.”
“Ok” [rising from chair].
Only the perception of a workmanlike attitude will persuade her to accept you.
Is it just me or are the TBS baseball announcers the most boring of all time? And the guy they have on the field doing the interviews looks like an odd throwback to ’70s broadcasters with his checked suits and Barney Rubble hairdo.
Holla everyone. Sorry been busy past couple of weeks so been MIA but I am sure no one really noticed a missed goat boy…
Anyhoo, I got a questions for ya’ll. There is an apartment in our building for sale with Fillmore. I pick up the brochure today and it say clearly “pet friendly”. I checked MLS and their website and it says the same thing. Now our building has NO PETS policy. Being a member of the board, should I send a nice casual email to the broker saying that they are wrong and they should remove it from the ad? What do you think?
HAH! I KNEW IT! NICE TRY, MR. B, BUT I COPIED MY LONG POST THIS TIME SUSPECTING YOUR SERVER WOULD LOG ME OUT!!!
“CGar, I would say you have a serious problem. That woman is out for your blood”
DCB really nailed it. This is exactly what’s going on.
She hired me originally to cover for her while she was out on leave, and then she signed off on hiring me permanently, and has done everything she can to undermine me with our boss ever since, literally on a daily basis. Various theories are that she’s threatened, jealous (she is pretty universally disliked here, except by our boss, which is all that matters; though she seems to know her stuff, she has a bad rep for not getting things done, sitting on things, disorganization, etc.), and that it’s a control thing (i.e., the decision to hire me may have been forced on her since it happened within a week of her coming back.
Dave, the problem with going over her head, which is what I have to do, is that our boss has already called me in and sided with her, ignoring 8 months of glowing feedback and reviews that he’s been getting from me from all over the firm (sorry to sound egotistical here). The other managers in my group are advising me on how to approach this — no one else who knows what’s going on and knows me can believe this is happening, and many people have witnessed her publicly berating me — it is an open trading floor after all.
dave, she’s survived 5 years because my boss loves her, though I don’t understand how given her temperament and the way she treats people.
etson, donatella, I try very hard not to let it show, or at least recover quickly, and I continue to be the happy, upbeat guy that people like me for here. It’s such a down-the-rabbit-hole-parallel-universe because it’s the first time in my life that the personal relationships I’ve developed have been used against me, which is what she does — always derogatory remarks about my “work wives” (yes, yes, my behavior is the same off the OT) and my being “chatty Cathy” (not to mention her public remarks about my “watching my diet like a woman”).
ishtar, there’s a bizarre home situation which I don’t want to post about, even in vague terms.
m4l, there are similarities definitely on the threatened/jealous front, by my old boss was at least incredibly nice to me on a personal level and easy to work with otherwise.
And, ET, the highlight of my day is you giving me a hard time 24/7.

Interesting line from the NYT front page coverage of the employment report….
“While total government jobs fell by 159,000, private sector companies added 64,000 jobs last month.”
Anybody want to simultaneously defend shrinking government and slam the Dems for unemployment figures?
