  1. “I would agree there have been more than a few very questionable recipients of the award over the years, but overall, I think this still sends a strong statement and hopefully means something in many peoples’ eyes”

Very well said, Biff. Couldn’t agree more.

lechacal, it’s more than just “an Internet chat room”, and you know that as well as anyone here. Friendships here moved far beyond the chat room stage long ago, and we’re no longer merely responding to anonymous posts by people we don’t know.

DCB I am a polemicist who doesn’t actually believe in anything at all. I just pick topics to fight about to keep my myself from going mad. The only thing I actually feel strongly about is that people should not be impressionable idiots who can’t account for how they reached their preconceived notions and can’t back up their statements with their own ideas. I believe in fighing well. Other than that I basically don’t give a fuck about anything.

  3. I like how the Chinese gov’t is all pissed off about it.

This one time I was told to go to a signing for a deal, and I walked in and it was the Chinese embassador to the US, the Chinese embassador to the UN, the chinese minister for commerce, Henry Paulson and like 5 other people, and the whole thing was on Chinese state television, and they looked at me and said oh you’re the lawyer, you need to run us through the signing, but be cool cuz you’re on TV. But I couldn’t pronounce anyone’s name. Luckily there was a chinese guy with me and I got him to do it.

  4. biff,
I agree with you on the Nobel Prize being a joke now.
    Arafat? come on now!

or how about when that loathesome Eurotrash guy on the Nobel committee came out and stated his outright bias against American Authors. He said something like they don’t want to give American Authors the Lit. prize because they don’t want the US to be the center of culture.
    lol,
like his stupid ignorance could somehow deny the legacy of Steinbeck and Faulkner.

  5. LOL, Biff. I was going to say, “What am I chopped liver?”, but I think we exhausted the chopped liver talk yesterday.

And, yes, you are the best Bridge therapist I could ask for. That you haven’t pushed me into the East River yet is a testament to your infinite patience with me. 🙂
