“Hal is a friend of mine, and is definitely not a sock puppet. He’s been reading Brownstoner longer than all of you. He just rarely posts anymore, probably because of people like DAVE, who go out of their way to be nasty to poor neophyte OT posters who venture here.”
MM, my dear woman and eSIL:
1. I’ll take your word for it, but, really, even longer than me? I was here pretty early on, though admittedly not in Mr. B’s first 2 years.
B. All joking aside, I have to say that EVERYONE, including dave, went out of their way to be incredibly nice to me the first day I posted in the OT. The next day, not so much 🙂 , but the first day definitely. Else I wouldn’t have come back — I scare easily, just as lechacal who scared the bejesus out of me until he finally cracked a smile and laughed.
Yes, jester, they seem not to know that Freedom is actually the right to hate. I’m not condoning that but it is what it is. This is why the ACLU won the right to have Nazi protests in Skokie, as unpalatable as that is.
Park Sloper, we discussed the PEW research report a bit yesterday. In a totally secular sense, it reflects a low level of general education, onsidering that our philosophical, political, artistic traditions have been shaped by the Judeo-Christian tradition. It’s depressing.
In fairness, PS, I said that the survey tested people’s knowledge of the bible. Jackal objected that it was a mroe general survey on religious topics. He didn’t say there was no survey.
I just tried it — NYT only gave me 6 Qs, but I got all six. Score another one for agnostic jews. Any evangelical takers?
Amen and hallelieuah, infinitejester. The left doesn’t like to engage on substance. They like to call people names and tar and feather their perceived enemies. It’s sad in a lot of ways.
Dave, you are right about liberals. Speaking as someone who makes his living with freedom of speech, the left used to be the guardians of the right to say unpopular ideas. Now the right is taking that on and liberals don’t like it.
CGar- Both I and MM know Hal in real life. That’s how we know. The 3 of us were on b’stoner since almost the beginning. He has posted off and on over the years, just not nearly as much as you do (I think you hold a record).

Hal needs to grow thicker skin then or sit at the kidies table, especially if he’s going to discuss politics on the OT.
Donatella,
your bike rack wish on fulton has been granted. Mr B posted a thread on it.
