  1. DIBS, I;m sure neither you nor I (or MM etc) should be characterized as close-minded, just willing to state our opinions strongly enough to discourage discussion. I can point to your many knee-jerk rightwing statements as proof, but I doubt you’re truly close-minded, just haven’t seen the light yet 😉

  2. quote:
Hal needs to grow thicker skin then or sit at the kidies table, especially if he’s going to discuss politics on the OT.

hal!! you can come sit over at the kiddie table with me. it’s fun over here, we do crafts with glitter and toilet paper tubes, eat paste, and giggle inappropriately when the adults make fools of themselves.

    *rob*

  3. There was actually a pretty good piece in the NY Times in the past few days about the liberal reaction to the tea party. It was more or less along the lines of what I’ve been saying on the OT. The Tea Party has a large audience and people are listening to them. They are relevant. Insulting and belittling them is just wasting time. You have to engage them on their ideas. No way around it. You have to be prepared to explain why actively judeo-christian policymaking is not better than a more inclusive alternative. You have to be prepared to explain and defend government regulation and intervention, if you believe in that sort of thing. Just calling them nutjobs etc. only makes you look childish and unprepared.

  4. Dave, a few weeks after this administration took office, the DJIA came off the bottom and is up almost 50% since then. Clearly the market like this administration.

I occasionally lurk on this thread. I posted pictures of my house some years ago in a feature I think was called “My Brownstone”.

  5. >”Someone posted about this survey yesterday, and then Lechacal claimed the survey didn’t exist. But I assume you’ve all seen this by now?”

l:Epic reading comprehension failure, Park Sloper. Go back and read my post again

Actually, that post by lech was one where his brain *was* engaged*, though, as the saying goes, he labored mightily to bring forth a mouse. His point was that you could (if you were being lawyerly) read your statement as being not at all what the survey asked. And in a narrow, legalese sense, he was right…hence ‘reading comprehension’

Dave- I doubt you could define the term “open mind” with any degree of accuracy if you assume (your biggest talent) that we know nothing about the Tea Party, American history, what it stands for, and why it chose the name “Tea Party.”

While i understand and even agree (yes! even me!) with some of their points, for the most part the movement has become nothing but a mouthpiece for the most extreme elements of the right. Screechy, hysterical, unthinking, with little real thought as to responsibilities or consequences. If you want to be part of that, please be my guest. But that does not make you “open-minded” in the least.

In fact I think anyone looking at your, legion’s and benson’s posts would hardly rush to drop the mantle of open-minded on any of you.
