  1. Dittoburg, I am sorry – didn’t read before hitting submit. Tried to correct. Was trying to say that the Catholic Church has accepted evolution for at least 100 years and has been refining its position, rejecting both CREATIONISM (not evolution) and intelligent design.

  2. “Theres no problem with evolution and the bible unless you are a strict literalist. In which case you have so many nutty problems evolution is the least of your concerns.”

    Snort!

  3. dibs:D’Souza is obviously of Portugese ancestry, likely from Goa, so i suspect there are members of the upper crust of India who are not accepting of him

Are you an expert on Indian social mores? Being of Portugese descent means a lot less than being of a certain social class, which Souza is. No discrimination. But I think I was wrong in that many upper-class Indians are profoundly racist towards American blacks (specifically) and many, after attending schools like Hrvard, are profoundly conservative. So maybe no surprise there for the Sooz.

  4. Donatella – Catholic Curch bascially accepts evolution with a few qualifications. I don’t know what you are referring to with your idea of rejecting it. Admittedly, Benedict is less embracing of it than John Paul, but the idea the church rejects it is wrong.

Theres no problem with evolution and the bible unless you are a strict literalist. In which case you have so many nutty problems evolution is the least of your concerns.

  5. >I’m asking if there is a legigimate concern or acknowledgement of the historical facts surrounding such failed societal structures, in his view

Since you asked, here’s the succinct answer: Yes. But no more so than fascist, rightwing dictatorships which’ve been as bad.

So what’s the point? It’s a far cry from raising taxes 3% on the super-rich and passing a flawed health care bill to blood in the streets.
