Who said they are tied to life decisions arkady? I can change professions tomorrow if I wish. Apprentice for a few years as an architect and don’t like it? Do something different.
Any Political Science majors here? How’s that career in political science coming along? Q.E.D.
>Nope. All children can learn by interacting and functioning outside the classroom. Always
Never say never. Or always. It’s simplistic on the face of it: Of course they can “learn” but “learn”–how & what? at what level? at what cost? and loss?
The issue is whether a disciplined environment set up for learning, with trained teachers, is better than most homes. And I say Yes.
“I would guess that the following individuals have yelled profanity at their computer screens on at least one occassion in response to things I have written (or at least had a strong urge to do so)”
Yes, but none of you have had a virtual I-Beam shoved up your ass!!!!!!
I think kids should be able to choose to apprentice in any field starting when they are maybe 12 or 13 years old. Instead of going to school. For certain fields (medicine, for example) they would have to go through some formal higher schooling before getting licensed.

I agree. I don’t want them doing blood-letting or trephining my skull without at least a year and a half.
Sweet. Thanks DCB, thanks arkady.
