“Punish the current generation for the mistakes of a prior generation”
Blacks are certainly being punished today for the mistakes of a prior generation. People want to get on their high horses and say “stand on your own two feet”. Really? After your parents were able to build “wealth” through federally subsidized loan programs that were systematically denied to blacks via red lining and flat out discriminatory practices. The government says “Lets redevelop communities and build great road ways!” Yup, lets do that. We can bulldoze entire black communities and build freeways over them and in the process we refuse to properly compensate them for their lost homes and businesses. Blah. Blah. Blah.
When you can say you’ve derived absolutely no benefit from someone keeping their foot on the necks of an entire group of people (thank goodness some suceeded despite all of this), then I will entertain ideas of earning things solely based on your own hard work and merit.

Let me amend that, dave.
Those who are proud to be ignorant of the past, wallow in ignorance.

What’s miserable is not knowing recent American history, such as the treatment of the Japanese in World War II. It wasn’t that long ago, and there are plenty of people still alive from that time, so it’s still relevent. You can poo poo history all you want, but it’s important, and does shape what we do today, and affects our future. We wouldn’t be in half the mess we are in today, all across the world, if people paid attention to history, learned from the past, and didn’t make the same stupid mistakes over and over and over.
dibs- talk to the republicans. They broke it. let them pay for it.
