Jessi -thanks for that tidbit about the Congo, I didn’t know the Belgians stirred the pot between those two tribes – I will read up on it
What’s sad – my own mother has her Masters in African Studies. I should kinda know more about this stuff – I wished all her academia passed through to me
My senior year in undergrad I took a class on social interactions in the workplace. The professor, a white woman, gave a speech at the start of class about her background and why she taught the class. The last thing she said to us was that the wrongs of our past will continure to trouble us until the majority (white men specifically) acknowledges there is a problem and actively participate in bringing about change.
rob – whatever you do – don’t walk by the corner of N3rd and Wythe. There’s this new place which is best described as a “fancy french bodega” you’d probably piss yourself and fly into a rage.
Wow I really started quite a mess
I thnk Lech has some valid points – ones’ I beleive in as well and as MM stated, I think reparations for Black Americans has passed – not gonna happen
I was speaking to a good friend of mine (Black) and we got into the topic of “African Americans” and he said he doesn’t want to be called that nor does he refer to himself as such – he just says he’s American or Black American and feels more American than African as he has no clue where he came from in Africa but can at least trace back to the early 1900’s in Alabama.
I thought about it and said you know most Black Americans are “more American” than most of us. I know it’s a complicated issue involving race etc etc but it’s just interesting he feels like that.

We have a long road ahead of us. 🙁

I agree, pete. That’s the US does nowadays – no one complains. Why now?

No DIBS you’re doing it wrong. It goes like this:
People have been burning each other’s villages and skullfucking each other for the past million years. IN BED.
