Snaps -I understand – but what I said wasn’t all that outrageous. but again am not super sensitive to peeps saying things about Irish folks. If that’s their experience with my people – then so be it – I can share what I know is my truth but guess what – it might not be their truth.
sorry – but my husband and I couldn’t live in parts of Bensonhurst or Breezy Point for that matter b/c we are interracial and the people that tend to cling to those parts of NY don’t really favor my husband’s kind.
sad but true – that’s my truth and my experience. it just upset me that Benson couldn’t admit it
Just on my direct male lineage – My great great great great great great great great great great grandfather, Daniel [insert my last name here], came over from England in the late 1600s and settled near Bridgeport, CT. His sons Abner and Joab ended up in Northampton, Massachusetts. When the local council gave away plots of land in the hilltowns, they got their plot in the lottery and walked to it from Northampton with all of their possessions in a big cast iron pot they carried on a pole between them. That was the early 1700s. My sons are the first males in this particular line of men to not be born and raised in either Chester Massachusetts or Huntington Massachusetts.
I’ll never forget an Immigration class I took in college. Professor wanted us all (total of 6 students) to trace our roots and find out when and how we came to the USA. In her words, “so as not to single anyone out,” we were to write it on a slip of paper and put it in a bowl on the table, and she would pull them out and read them aloud. There was no need for guessing/wondering which slip of paper was mine, as I was the only black student in the class and my sheet of paper read, “Yall effing grabbed my people up, threw ’em on a boat and shipped ’em here. Can’t tell you the exact dates or where we landed because you all weren’t too interested back then on keeping copious notes on that kinda thing.”
Ai ya, big shit storm last night in my building. Our taxes have doubled since 2005. Our maintenance increase since then are covering only half the tax bill. The tax bill is now 50 % of our operating income. We have major infrastructural projects that need doing, soon.
The solution seems simple to me: we need to raise the maintenance by at least 10 percent.
Alas, the roar of opposition from my building was louder than yesterday’s tornado.
You would think they tossed those readers out by the 80s, dibs, but they hadn’t. LOL I had to read those in school. I guess that’s why my parents were extra anal about me reading black-centric books at home.
“CGar, morning period is 49 days so it’ll still be a while b4 I can attend celebratory stuff/events. cant even celebrate little guy’s b’day”
m4l, I’m really very sorry. I had no idea so long. And I thought the Jews mourned for a long time with 7 days of Shiva. And that’s too bad about the Little Bugger. But at least he’s getting an iPad!
“Personally, I think “race” is a totally man made cultural phenomenon. There is a huge scale of skin color, facial features, shoe size, whatever.”
SO VERY TRUE. When I’m cruising guys on the A train, it’s oftentimes difficult to tell whether a guy is black American originally African ancestry, caribbean or maybe something middle eastern or Indian subcontinent. in reality he could be a mix of every single one of those things here in NYC.
Headed down to penn Station now, probably cruise a few black and not-so-black, tan and olive guys on the train.
Back in about 25 minutes.
Won Ton, you need to sell as that’s proof you’re living with IDIOTS – 100% certified IDIOTS
