“Because it appears this site appears to have been chosen for this center with the intention of sparking a debate about Islam relative the US. ”
Sorry Etson- that’s your interpretation but not the truth. They really wanted to give something to the community and try to so something to help heal the wounds. They thought building there would show the world that the terrorist are not the true face of Islam. But seeing the reaction and the blatant misreading of the issue I guess too many people don’t want healing and understanding. Go figure.
I agree with dave- it is time to move on. We either try to make the world a better place, or we wallow in our grief and anger. I’m not interested in reliving 9-11 over and over again. It’s already impacted my life big time.
I think what worries me is that when the center gets built it will probably be victim to vandalism!
I also noticed that most of the opponents of the Mosque are white – there were plenty of asian, black and hispanic people killed in those towers yet you don’t see their families protesting so I do believe it’s not about sensitivity as it is an issue about bigotry
What you don’t seem to get is the following: you put the onus on the opponents of the Mosque. According to them, they need to do two things:
a) prove to the high and mighty that they are not bigots;
b) broker a solution.
Think I’m exaggerating? Just take a look at this week’s cover of Time magazine.
BULLSHIT! Where is the Iman’s responsibility???? The ball should be in his court, if he is trying to build bridges, his ostensible purpose.
People have legitimate questions, and he has refused to address one of them.
Let’s do a mental experiment, shall we? Suppose the Catholic Church decided to build a cathedral near Ground Zero and name it: “Our Lady of the Crusaders”. One can only imagine the outrage that would pour forth from the liberal elite.
Yet somehow they are silent when an Iman who refuses to condemn Hamas names a community center “Cordova”. Indeed, they call him a moderate.
Who is kidding whom here??
Keep it up, however. Liberals have scored big on this one, as you’ll see in November.
If Fred Flintstone knew that the large order of ribs would tip his car over, why did he order them at the end of every show?
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! let’s not get on the cartoon fight again!

“How many of you have been to New York Dolls???? I have. :)”
Was that during “Gays & Dolls Night”?

“Someone please call/email or text me when the Mosque / Islam discussion is over and I’ll log back on.”
Sure. To confirm, you’re at 1-800-BIG-HAIR?

While everyone is busy typing up their rebuttals, time for the Stupid Question of the Day:
If Fred Flintstone knew that the large order of ribs would tip his car over, why did he order them at the end of every show?
