  1. Yeah, but It’s your choice to live on SI – I am not forcing anyone to live there! – they should have to pay for that service – sorry! People on LI and NJ pay for their means to get into the city and yes Staten Island is a borough -but still…..

BTW – who the Eff has “RETWEETED” what has gone on here today on the OT 4 times???
    WEIRD!

  2. Historical point of fact about Staten Island Ferry. For many years it was .05 cents. The highest it ever went was .25 cents a side and that is because of the insane amount of public transportation each Staten Islander has to take.

Just think of the money it saves in putting in another bridge or tunnel!!

  3. Totally agree re CA, donatella.
I remember the power market stuff. If CA had allowed investment in enough capacity to meet its demand rather than relying on merchant power from NV, AZ etc they would never have been in that much trouble.
Also, a lot of the utilities were stupid around that time but PG&E and Edison really stood out.

  4. JB:I wear gas permeable lenses because I have steep corneas

Wow so do I! And I thought I was unique. I wear contacts and have to use reading glasses and bright light.

    I envy people with vision.

Oh, got contacts from a Canadian web company. Easy. 1/2 the price of my stupid (unnamed) shop in PS.

I took my kids on the Staten Island Ferry this weekend and could only think, why is this free? Why are my taxes paying for Staten Island residents to commute for free when subway monthly cards are going up, up, up. And I know we don’t care about tourists paying money.

Put in turnstiles. Make people swipe a card. 20 million people a year ride the ferry. Track the friggin money. MTA budget crisis solved.

Because then most Staten Islanders would have to pay several fares to get to work! (if you unbundled their service, you would pay three fares to get to work — train or bus to ferry, ferry, subway. And they used to. In addition to having the most screwed up public transportation system in New York City and being separated by water (no other choice), Staten Islanders have the longest commute of NYC residents. They are not just riding the ferry. Most have 3 forms of transportation to get to work!!!!!

  6. “I think there is a glory days thing with old PC people that is a little hard to move on from.

But yeah, would have been cool to be with people my own age. You get too far off the beaten path and all your find are heroin dealers and missionaries. Not that they didn’t have obscene parties themselves…”

Haha, Ringo. Would love to hear more stories. Yeah, like your friends, I have a hard time moving on myself. I hung out with a nice family of missionaries and while it was great that they made their own yogurt, it was hardly a party.
