  1. I have mixed feelings about Torfurky and other fake meats. Sometimes they’re really good, but more often I don’t like them. I’m thinking it’s more mental than anything because I’m thinking “yum turkey”, but that’s not the flavor I get. Next time I go to a dinner and there is some type of vegetarian meat I’m not going to ask what dish the preparer is copying. I’ll just eat it and see if I like it.

  2. when i was in college a homeless person was on the 6 train asking if anyone had some food or money for him – he was ‘so hungry’

i just so happened to be going home from some school club function with a bunch of leftover taco fixings (ground beef, tortillas, etc)

i offered this homeless man my taco and he was offended.

  3. I was sitting down in a cool, peaceful, uncrowded 4 train this morning, enjoying myself, spaced out and meditating on the eternal verities. Then suddenly someone starts howling religious hymns, shocking me out of my reverie. (This with the idea of getting donations.) But at the same time, somebody else barges out of another car and starts “Excuse me ladies and gentlemen…”, seeing the hymn singer, he started cursing to himself, muttering and wandering around the train, waiting for her to shut up but gave up and got off the train, cursing.

Everyday a new adventure. A new experience.

  4. quote:
Wow, rob, I’m so impressed that you decided to join in!

i think i was the one who started the first one, so i join in at every one of them. usually there is a theme. our first one was country cookin’ and everyone had to pick out a receipt from a cookbook written by Loretta Lynn that old school country singer?, recipes handed down to her by her country relatives. there was a recipe that actually involved skunk!! or maybe it was possums? luckily no one picked that recipe.

  5. “if there is still a ton left would it be a weird thing to go find a homeless person and give it to them? or will they just look at me like im nuts and reject it?”

Wrap it up so they think it’s something good, hand it off, and keep walking.

  6. Wow, rob, I’m so impressed that you decided to join in! Very sorry that the meal didn’t turn out well. But I think it’s great that you made the attempt!

Next time, why not poll some of the cooks here as to a good easy potluck meal/recipe?
