so we are having a potluck lunch today at work and i decided to join in and make something. i decided to make vegetarian sausage and peppers.. i sauteed the peppers with olive oil and they came out great, the red, yellow, and orange ones. yum… but the vegan sausage is just absolutely HORRIFIC and ruined the whole dish! it was that tofurkey brand which i thought was a legit alternative to meat because people are always ranting and raving how amazing the thankgiving tofurky turkies are. grrrr i made so much of it too which is why i had some for dinner last night.
everytime i make something for potluck it winds up being absolutely terrible and a horrible choice and no one eats any of it.
if there is still a ton left would it be a weird thing to go find a homeless person and give it to them? or will they just look at me like im nuts and reject it?
when making eggplant parmigiana, you need to “treat” the eggplant first, i.e. slice thin (some people make thick slices…BAD BAD BAD) salt and then leave out to “sweat” out bitter acid for a few hours, blot with paper towels and then you lightly bread, fry lightly, then put in pan to bake with sauce and cheese.
BTW, a PlUSA and I tried out Hot Bird last night and it is really good! This is not fine dining or an elegant bar experience (Bar is inside garage, food cooked inside a ratty little trailer and you can eat in a picnic tables in a little enclosure or inside) but it is perfect fun place to stop by for a beer or a hamburger. We really liked it.

That’s too bad – was excited about the meatball cook off. I guess meatballs are better in winter anyway.

Cooking question:
Whne making eggplant parmigiana, is it better to fry or bake the eggplant before adding the sauce and cheese?
Re: own food at Hot Bird’s……nah…I don’t think so. We asked about that for a party and looks like a no-go.
Dona – could you get away with bringing in your own food, i.e. meatballs?
It’s also far more glamorous and lucrative than being a Bay Ridge hooker.

Being a porn star is hard work.
