For peppers and spices, I have been buying from this place for years. They have an atrocious website, but get their catalog. Fresh and cheap, and they have loads of Mexican chiles.

I don’t claim to “know” the market as well as it appears many of you think you do. All I know is that most of you (including myself) want to own in brownstone Brooklyn, but judging by the average reader appraisal, most of you think everything is too expensive. My message is: get real, folks. It ain’t as cheap as you believe it should be.

Get the Micro Plane grater, lovely for parmaesan. Not so great for softer cheeses, use a box or flat grater for those.

I also think pre-grated cheese is usually poorer quality. Buy the good stuff, grate it yourself.
