  1. rats and mice are not in your face creatures, and in fact you can befriend them in ways that you cant do with any other kind of vermin. i dont even consider rats and mice vermin, they are too cute and friendly. i remember when i first moved to nyc i caught a baby mouse in my office and put him in a box to take him home with me and i got reprimanded for it and told to take it outside!!! 🙁 i let it go and it ran into a store on broadway right back into the same building. go lil mouse!

  2. I go to a place on Canal St. all the way east, right around the corner from the East Broadway (uptown) end of the E. Bway stop on the F train. Take the escalator up (it’s about 2/3 of the way uptown on the platform). When you exit the station, go through the turnstyles opposite the token booth and up the steps to the right. You’ll be on Essex St. on a short block between East Broadway and Canal St.–there’s a bakery and a newspaper store right there You’ll see the Seward Park playground on the other side of Essex. Go to Canal St. (on the newspaper store end of the block), pass a truly awful Chinese restaurant, you’ll see a place with a half-size barber pole. They charge $8 for women which includes wash and blow-dry! I always wash my hair first and give the guy $12. I find that the husband is a better haircutter than the wife, but I don’t know about how they cut men’s hair or what they charge but it can’t be much. They both speak reasonable English. Oh, and they sell luggage and cold water bottles in front.

  3. You went the day after the weekend, Rob. A hot weekend.

Just like Prospect Park is sometimes a mess on Monday morning, they probably hadn’t gotten to cleaning the beach yet today. I was there on a Wednesday a couple weeks ago and the beach was quite clean.

  4. i have no problems with rats. they are cute and mind their own business and for the most part they dont poop in public places, they poop in hidden areas that humans cant get to. coney island on their hand had poop (inside of gross pampers) EVERWHERE. that is gross. the thing is i remember going to coney island many times before and it didnt seem like at all. i mean it wasnt the cleanest beach, but it was nothing like i saw today.

  5. Apparently it’s because we are “dirty fucks” DH. :-/

I’ve seen more rats in PS than usual this year. I’m blaming the heat. But actually if you read the book Rats you will realize that they are ALL around us…in every neighborhood, on every street, just below the surface they are EVERYWHERE!

  6. just got back from day trip to coney island. had a hot dog and cheese fries. gross. tho good, i felt gross afterwards. then i went to the actual beach. OMFG i thought i stepped onto a movie set and they were filming some movie set in the third world. GUH-ROSS! there were children literally playing in the sand in tons of trash and detritus, and all along where the water met the sand looked like a garbage dump, trash floating everywhere, random trash stuck in the sand. DIRTY DIAPERS EVERWHERE! yet there was empty trash cans EVERYWHERE so no one can use the excuse of not being enough trash. totally absolutely disgusting and filthy. im sanitizing my feet in a bit, i couldnt go into the water more than my feet it was that disgusting. i probably have scurvy and who knows what else now.

surprisingly, luna park was pretty fun! but the beach completely gross. sorry but ill stick to jersey beaches from now on. stay classy brooklyn ya dirty fucks.
