  1. It was nice bumping into you Benson. Did you have any Russians spit at you on the boardwalk while you were there?

BTW, I tried to do a couple of cyclones games but didn’t really enjoy them as no one EVER hits home runs cause it’s minor league weaklings there. The atmosphere is nice and ticket prices are cheap but the game itself is not that enjoyable in my opinion.

  2. Rob, I have had a problem with my washing machine too lately — need to buy a new one. The last two weeks ( until I get the new machine thing together) I am going to that chain (forget the name, Washrite or something like that, the blue and yellow ones all over Brooklyn with the cards).

The one I am going to is on Fulton and St. James and they are very clean and well kept and the place is HOPPING at 6:30 am on Sunday am. Turns out early Sunday is when all the ladies (mostly) with lots of laundry go there, I guess before church.

  3. Last Friday I was off from work to attend to several personal items, including installing a “life watch” alarm system in the home of my increasingly frail mother-in-law. I go to the PC Richards on KIngs Highway in my old neighborhood, and who do I see there? Kens! You meet PLUSA’s in the darndest places. What are the odds that we would meet in a PC Richards in Gravesend?

On Friday night I went to my first-ever Brooklyn Cyclones game. I LOVED it. Now THIS is how baseball is supposed to be!! The venue is fantastic, and the game is enjoyable. When I was a kid I was a baseball fanatic, but recently I’ve been so turned off by major-league baseball. What turns me off? You name it: the ticket prices, the attitude of the players (not signing autographs, for instance), the rough crowds at the stadiums, etc. The crowd at MCU park couldn’t be nicer – a real family and fun atmosphere.

After the game we strolled along the boardwalk, and I was really pleasantly surprised at the improved atmosphere there. It seemed all of Brooklyn was there, and while the atmosphere is still honky-tonk, it was much cleaner and more pleasant than the last time I was there. Further proof of Brooklyn’s revival.

I never thought I would see the day. When I was a kid, my parents took us to Coney Island alot, as it was a cheap staycation. We happened to go to Steeplechase Park on the last day, without knowing it beforehand. As we were leaving, one of the attendees told my parents that the place was closing. I remember how dejected my father was. At that time, it was yet another blow to a great Brooklyn Institution (the others being: the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the Brooklyn Eagle and of course, the Dodgers).

  4. Blowfish, the guy did mention something about another French shop opening up. Not that I am a such a big French food fan (and I try to stay away from eating a lot of sweets) but what is really important to me is that there are finally more retail services opening up around that stretch. I am looking forward to the Japanese place. And I love Katrina, the intreprid entrepreneur who opened Olivino Wine place and her tiny little wine bar nearby which has become a really wonderful place to stop by after work and bump into neighbors and shoot the breeze. Thursday night they have Sushi night. (Big plate of delicious sushi and a glass of saki for 15 bucks)

  5. “So was there ever a PLUSA Hot Bird gathering? Is there another gathering at any location in the works?”

blowfish, we’re going to have a Hot Bird gathering in August when wasder is back in town from his road trips.

  6. i was wondering how people with multiple kids deal with the stress of doing laundry?! they obviously dont all send it out to fluff and fold.. i cant believe i let my laundry pile up this high. and entire closet of mine is filled floor to shelves above with laundry and when i open it everything falls out and i dont even know where to begin picking stuff.

worst dream last night i had.. i was on top of one of those giant double decker buses and it was driving down turnpike or highway in jersey and then the bus swerved and started riding all crazy in a field, i was like wtf and look down and someone had opened fire at people! then the bus finally stopped and i was hiding under the seat waiting til i thought it was safe. i found a ladder and climbed down and then was in some sort of outer space medical facility (i think). it was deserted, but not abandoned.. i hid in a room and then someone opened the door and literally shot me! i woke up right then.
