Well, thanks for telling me your Dell experience CGAR. I am stubborn enough to try to keep doing things myself, but I think it is best to just cut my losses and get something else. I know that the harddrive gets incredibly hot.
The Sony Vaio problem was that I picked up this extremely light laptop putting some pressure on the side of the screen with my thumb which shattered the whole thing — not covered by warantee and almost half the value of the computer to replace. The Time Warner issue is on top of the other things, so using my computer at home is annoying beyond belief.
Donatella, you can buy a decent laptop for $500-750 from Best Buy or Staples or Office Max. It will come with Windows 7 which is supposed to be hugely better than Vista. Or you can spend $1500 for a mac laptop. Probably better than throwing good money after bad on the old one. Consumer Reports liked the Toshiba laptops.
Anyone know someone who can help me get my newly acquired air conditioner out of the van and up the stoop and up one flight inside, and installed in a window? After last night, which was impossible with a forecast of worse for tonight, this morning I found someone selling a good used one. Looks new! But it’s very heavy, and I don’t have a whole lot of bucks to spend. Please email me at robyf @ aol. Thanks!
” Because they have put us deeper into debt but have very little additional job creation, innovation or growth to show for it.” —
the argument would be if had not done their bit, we would have fallen deeper and lost more jobs. There is no magic bullit or formula for what is the right mix…..
only thousands of different opinions and none of them right….and hundreds of thousands of critics no matter what is/was done.
There is no way to measure/calculate what would have happened under other scenario.
donatella, my brother sent me an article last week about Dell’s problems and how they basically drove the company into the ground. One of their problems involved faulty parts (can’t remember exactly which but I believe it was something leaking on the motherboard) that they concealed from consumers, even though the part could destroy the computer and cause the loss of all data. Michael Dell is apparently being investigated by the SEC for securities.
I had 2 Dell Lemontops; they (lied and) promised they’d replace the second one for free if it required 3 repairs (it did); they then refused to replace it, even though there was a note in their system that said they would; and I vowed never to buy another Dell product. Previously, aside from my personal computers, I had outfitted 2 law firms with dozens and dozens of Dell PCs and laptops, but they didn’t care about losing my business. (Macy’s, be warned!)
donatella, you are in position 69 here for today. Do you usually enjoy that?

Pete, after a long weekend there must be a lot of “Lost Dog” posts for you to tear down.
What’s the difference between Lady Gaga and a Vuvuzela?
One is plastic and makes a constant, painful droning noise, the other is an African musical instrument.

Sorry, supposed to be under investigation for securities fraud.
