  1. “Hoping that Macy’s brings next year’s display back to the East River where there will be tons of room along the newly opened piers for all Brooklynites to observe them”

I’m boycotting Macy’s until they bring the fireworks back to Brooklyn. Sadly, though, since I can’t recall the last time I shopped there (a coffee maker in 2005 sounds about right), my boycott is likely to have little impact.

  2. Boston is a cliquey provincial place and South Boston has had a rep as a thuggy working class Irish neighborhood, but I don’t know how true that is now. So as far as being open, inclusive, accepting of Yankee-ness, not really. I am glad you had a nice time there Biff.

Rob, that’s a little worrisome about your grandmother. Nobody else to call about her?

  3. “”Seriously, though, I’d never heard that Boston was known for covert prejudice? Against Asians or all so-called non-whites?”

I always thought it was a white vs black thing.

  4. I heard a couple of commentators on the radio claiming that extending unemployment benefits yet again would a. Stimulate the economy and b. create jobs.
How mixed up can you get?

  5. “Seriously, though, I’d never heard that Boston was known for covert prejudice? Against Asians or all so-called non-whites?”

I didn’t notice that on previous trips there with Mrs C either, but some Asian friends who lived in or visited Boston said they experienced it. We didn’t notice anything like that. There were actually a ton of Asian tourists there as well.

  6. DIBS, we had the chowder and other seafood at Atlantic Fish Co. on Boylston, which was pretty good.

We were also fortunate to have a direct view of the fireworks from a high floor at the Hyatt downtown, which looked past Boston Common and towards the water. We also had the TV going so we could hear the Boston Pops play as they went off. I tried to turn down the volume when all of the hokey proud to be an American Toby Keith crap came on. This sure beat having to fight for a spot on the ground to watch them and then drag the Champs home around midnight. Plus, with all of the great fireworks in New York, they get plenty of chances to see them.

Hoping that Macy’s brings next year’s display back to the East River where there will be tons of room along the newly opened piers for all Brooklynites to observe them.

  7. “biff, you’re lucky to be alive!”

I was actually hoping for a bit more of a negative reaction as payback for having to see all of the Red Sox fans in New York suddenly emerge only after Boston started winning in the playoffs. Alas, all I received were a lot of gasps and looks of disgust (yes, even more than I usually get when I walk down the street).

  8. Morning all.

Dave, are you still in PTown? Did you get the boat fixed?

Biff, are you sure it was your Yankees attire they were staring and remarking at? 😉

Seriously, though, I’d never heard that Boston was known for covert prejudice? Against Asians or all so-called non-whites?
