“I just got off the phone with a friend who lives in the East Village with 3 roommates and has been wanting to leave when their lease expires at the end of the month. ”
In a 1 Bedroom apartment.
” sent them a few listings last week in Carroll Gardens, Prospect Heights, Park Slope, and they looked at 4 places yesterday and have decided to take the one in the South Slope!!”
All 3 can move to Brooklyn to live in a 1 Bedroom apartment….
So that’s 10 PEOPLE I know who live in a 2 bedroom Apartment in Brooklyn starting March 1.
A HANDFUL OF RENTAL POSTS IS IRRELEVANT WHAT. GET OFF THIS. IT LESSENS YOUR ALREADY LOW CREDIBILITY AND MAKES YOU LOOK MRE FOOLISH THAN YOU REALLY ARE.
How many people called your broker friend??????????
“Manhattan is cheaper than Brooklyn” Of really???? Where is anyone going to find a townhouse cheaper in Manhattan. You’re laughable now what.
SoHo 2-bedrooms under $3200 is not cheaper than Brooklyn. You can get a 2BR, and probably much larger than the SoHo one, in prime Park Slope, for $2600 or less.
Also, I lived on the UES for three years. Yes, you can get cheap apartments up there, if you’re willing to walk four or more avenue blocks to the subway each morning and evening. If you get anywhere near the Lex line, the average 1 BR is going to cost you a lot more than $1600, even now.
Neither of your examples are cheaper than comparable Brooklyn areas. Try again.

Dave I know you are trying to discredit me and i does not matter because it sounds like you are panicking. I wanter to post 2 Craigslist searches- one for UES 1 Bedrooms under 1600 and Soho 2 Bedrooms under 3200. I got good hits but, Brownstoner is blocking me and I can’t post the results.
Congratulations Rob what fun I’m so glad the meeting went well.
Re that Atlantic article, it is germane to the What’s post today. Author Richard Florida is a bit of a one-trick pony; with the rise of Web 2.0 and the decline of traditional organizations such as the print media, some members of “the creative class” will be able to move to slightly less expensive creative centers such as Raleigh-Durham, Austin, Portland, upstate New York.
No, I don’t think that will make New York a ghost town. I think it will relieve some of the pressure here. We’re already seeing a slight decline in rents and purchase prices here. Good news for everyone except flippers.
so all im getting out of this thread now is that manhattan is the pc and brooklyn is the mac.
a little grrr-worthy. oh well. that made no sense sorry. i have a cold today but couldnt stay home because there’s not enough people here today.

Oh and the What…their new place in Brooklyn is $3800 a month.
Their place in Manhattan was $4800.
Is Manhattan really cheaper?
I’m back, DIBS. Hey, I pretty much agree with your points. Like I said, I did not necessarily agree with the article, I just found it interesting.
Did anybody else see “House of Cards” on CNBC?
