  1. Most galling is when you’re standing to the side on the platform so people can get off & bozos use the space to enter first. Why can’t those idiots understand that letting people off clears the car faster?

  2. Regarding the clean-up of the oil spill: there are bioagents out there that can decompose it. However, the EPA has been dragging its feet for years on it.

We have been here before – remember the Valdez? That was more than 15 years ago. One wonders why, in a country with a strong bioengineering sector, some agent has not been developed to deal with this situation. Look no further than the EPA.

By the way, I agree with Sarah Palin: this catastrophe is the logical end-point of the constraints that the environmental lobby has put on oil exploration and other forms of energy sources. Shallow-water drilling has been banned from all the coasts except for the GOM. Since the shallow-water wells have all been exploited in the GOM, they’ve had to go out to drill to very deep waters, and here we are. If this problem had occured in a shallow-water well, it would have been capped weeks ago. If we other forms of PRACTICAL energy sources had been allowed (nuclear, shale, etc.), not some green-energy pipe dream, we wouldn’t be here today.

  3. jackal,

that reminds me of an only in NYC fight or flight moment I witnessed yesterday. On a crowded train during rush hour, the door opens at a major downtown stop and a mass of people are trying to get off the train. So many that those near the door need to exit temprorarily to allow it. But some guy with headphones on is blocking the door on the platform waiting to get on. This woman keeps yelling “excuse me,” louder and louder, but he doesn’t seem to hear her or move. Finally, she pushes him a bit so she can get off the train and let others off. Now, she is about 2/3 his size, but she does not stop giving the guy one of the most withering death stares I’ve seen in years. Finally, they both get on the train and she keeps staring, and he realizes she won’t stop staring. He doesn’t visibly react but you can see he is about to boil over. Finally he starts making grunting noises (think Peter Boyle as Young Frankenstein in the presence of fire). The grunts and growls get louder and louder, but I guess he knows he can’t hit this woman, so finally he lets out a full throated yell and walks down to the other end of the car and gets back off the train. So the woman, who was clearly right, wins, but she was playing with a bit of crazy fire.

My take — do a short stare, make sure he sees, then drop it.

  4. I was watching AC360 last night. Those clips of the pelicans covered in oil made me both soo sad and angry at the same time. Future Mrs. D couldn’t even watch and had to leave the room in tears.
BP got caught with their pants down and are not handling this quickly and efficiently enough. I’m not a conspiracy theorist but I have a sick feeling that they could have stopped the leak weeks ago but are trying to find a non-permanent solution so they can re-tap the hole again to get back at that oil.
