To those whio want to pull out the pom-poms for Pete’s platitude, I’ll pose another simple question: have you ever been engaged in any endeavor where you can guarantee that an accident will not occur? I have yet to see such a thing in my engineering work.
If we want to force the oil companies to go out deep to drill for oil, accidents will occur, and we should be prepared for them.
ET, I know you are eating for 2, but you amaze me with how much you can eat! If I ate all of those sweets, I would be one of those fatties blocking the doors on the subway.

It does seem apparent that BP did cut corners and certainly need to pay for all this, but fundamentally, benson is correct.
