Slopefarm — Absolutely. If a bathroom renovation costs $3,000 in Darlington and $4,500 in Brooklyn… the % of the home value will barely register in Brooklyn.
tybur — my point is only that any cost differences in reno pale compared with house cost differences. No matter how cheap the labor is in Darlington, and what kinds of sales they got at the local HD, reno costs are going to be a much bigger % of home value (read three digits) than here.
sometimes yes, sometimes no, tybur. Depends on whom you use, what % of job is labor costs vs. supplies, etc.
Other towns, cities, etc can have bigger pain in the butt permits, and DOBs than NYC.
Snappy — Yes, permits, DOB hassles, and labor is significantly higher in the city. Not what the contractor pays his crew with questionable immigration status, but what he charges for these services. Also, materials are definitely sold at a premium (even if its just the shipping costs to get it here).
You could do a HD bathroom for under $4,500 if you did ALL the labor yourself and also used cheap $1 psf tiles.
It’d get torn a new asshole if any of us saw it in a HOTD though.
DIBS, plus no “extra service” involved
Its not ensuite, dave.
$4,500 for a bathroom renovation in brooklyn??? I want some of hat you are smoking.
