benson–I knew you disagree with that and thanks for saying you respect my opinion. I was angry after 9/11 like everybody here in NYC. I was full of righteous anger at the perpetrators and at the Muslim world in general. And then I cooled down after a little while and came to the conclusion that fighting that kind of absolutist philosophy with an equally unbending and absolutist response(ie–Bush administration foreign policy) was only going to amplify the problem. I know its harder to see things in shades of grey but that is where I am on 9/11.
Legion, you’ve totally lost all credibility and focus on this issue. Why do Muslims have to be “humble” at 9/11? The individuals who destroyed the WTC, and the movements they belonged to are guilty of murder, not the faith itself, or those who wish to put up a center of worship and cultural understanding.
All faiths put up houses of worship, in part, to draw in new followers. If the other main religions can do it, why not the Muslims? If we have freedom of religion, what’s good for one religion is good for all, including the ones we don’t like. I would defend Scientologists or Jehovah’s Witnesses if they had purchased land or were renting a building.
If we become the Great Satan that radical Islam says we are, then they have won. We prove every day that we are not, by being an open society. Unfortunately, sometimes that leads to people like the Times Square bomber or the Army doctor. It also leads to the Timothy McVeigh’s of the world, too. No one is suggesting that we ban churches because Timothy McVeigh called himself a “Christian”.
Anyone ever used Western Union to send money overseas??? How does it work?? What do you need to know???
MM,
why?
for the same reason
the United States is not busy
setting up Churches and Mosques in Iraq.
it’s a cultural senstivitiy.
for the same reason the Japanese
didn’t come around in 1952 to dedicate
a shrine to the Emperor next to the Arizona.
for the same reason the Germans
didn’t open up a Wagner museum over Dauchau.
The fact that you don’t see this is quite disturbing.
“And apparently ‘f*ck me’ pumps are back in.”
And who would know better than you, ETramp.

“I have an issue with the whole notion of moral clarity when it comes to 9/11.”
Wasder;
I respect your opinion, but couldn’t disagree more. Your statement above basically boils it down to the essence.
