  1. “You’re right, you can’t win the argument, because while we know that the brownstones have survived for more than 100 years, some in better shape, some in worse, we do not know if what is now new construction will survive the next hundred. ”

    Denton;

    Some of the modest woodframe homes in Greenpoint and the South Slope have survived, just as SOME of the brownstones have survived. So what??? Do you have any data to show what the survival rate has been? The annual cost of ownership of old versus new? The cost to upgrade a derelict brownstone versus buying new?

    How about folks acknowledge that they are just arguing from the POV of their taste, rather than any factual basis?

    My building is made with steel frame construction. Somehow, I don’t worry about it lasting 100 years.

  2. Thanks wasder and Legion, I missed that. I don’t think a blogicide counts unless there are a sufficient number of people around to witness it. Were there enough PLUSAs around still to form a minyan?

    Yes, Legion, full blown narcissism. Already accounts of tantrums and tirades in the oval office too.

    …is that right?
    fascinating. characterized by external super-confidence and internal super-sensitivity to criticism.
    not good in a crisis situation, could cloud rational judgement.

  4. “The wood panels are just a veneer.”

    Doesn’t matter. they are peeling and need to be repaired. Something that is unsightly at best to those who bought into the Sartori and at worst, could cost them money.

    If you are not aware that there are a lot of new developments with leaking roofs, leaking windows and a whole host of other issues then you don’t really know the market.
