People, not so much. I really learned to dislike the fake ‘southern’ friendliness. I took them at ‘face value’, a MISTAKE.
Yeah, I know what that is. It is really really different than a northern/ northeastern bluntness which is much easier to tell where you are at. I used to always cringe when someone (usually a woman) would start a sentence with “bless her heart” (followed by but) or “I’m just a country guy”, then you know you are going to get badly screwed somehow.
One thing that I like about Texans is that they speak in metaphors and very graphic images. Everyone talks like Dan Rather — and has a colorful way to say everything. I met a guy the other day who said something like “even a blind boar finds an acorn ever’ now and then…”.
