If someone resorts to hurling invective of any kind or starts being violent I figure he’s a nutcase & not mentally equipped to deal w/ frustration & I go as far away as possible.
Thanks Ty. I’ll follow your advice. Any other good suggestions for bike shops with good reasonable priced selection in the Kensington/Ditmas Park area? The new bike shop in Prospect Heights that’s featured on Brownstoner today might be a good option for me. I’ll get me one of those 3 wheelers to cruise around in.
Lechacal, it is quite interesting and revealing. By it’s standard definition, (not the definition of racism by what I’ve seen as most B’Stoner posters’ view) because racism requires power, not everyone can even be racist. A lot of people take this to mean that, by its very definition, black people or other racial minorities for that matter cannot be racism, as there is a lack of requisite power. I don’t fall into that narrow viewpoint, however I do believe the power component is necessary to racism and not everyone has said power to be racist. And that includes a ton of white people as well. Let’s take Rob for example (Sorry to do this to you Rob, but you fit the bill to well for my purposes here!). White? Check. Power wielding? Nope. Therefore, even though Rob is white, he cannot in my view be a racist. He could be prejudiced (which I do not believe he is), but not racist.
The Return of the What — OR the point you *could* make is that someone should not be friends with someone that carries a .38 and has a penchant for using it. You say that people carry guns in this city like you endorse it… like it’s OK.”

No because you can make the wrong decision and it will cost you dearly! Do you have family, a wife or friends Dumbass??? You you wanna wind up in a box at a young age?? You can’t take advise fro “The What” because you feel I’m beneath you.

Sorry – if a person is in irrational mode and their first instinct is to make racist comments – then that person is a racist.
DH,
and what does the term “racist” even mean in our society today? That someone thinks of themselves better than others or is willing to bring another’s race into the picture when arguing and fighting? Again, why is this suprising when people are willing to murder and maim for things like sneakers, dollars and hard stares.
people will use “racist” insults even amongst their own kind, just to harm with words.
“I do think it’s wrong to single someone out for a crime, ie assault/battery, based on something like skin color, sexuality, etc. ”
Snappy;
I would agree with this too. I would have no problem with stiffer sentences if it could be proven that a person was assaulted or killed because of who they were (race, geneder, etc.), in other words, if the action was pre-meditated. An example of that would be the killing of the Ecuadorian immigrant recently in Long Island. That group of kids set out to assault a Hispanic that night.
