bottom line,
If you have nothing to lose, engaging in road rage and letting the anger take control may seem a viable option.
If you have nothing to lose.
If however, like the What says, you have family or a life to get back to, then you’re taking a chance.
Like the person with a “baby on board” sticker cursing out the car full of punks, not a good idea.
You give up a sort of “don’t give a crap” attitude as your responsibilities in life increase (unless of course you work for the State Assembly or Senate, but I digress).
corollary:
there are many drivers out there on the streets of NYC with “nothing to lose”.
The What — You don’t seem to be providing “lessons” that anyone really should learn. Basically, This is how it is. It will never change. You shouldn’t even try to think it will be different. All of my friends carry (and use) .38 and there’s nothing wrong with that, they just need to “chill” a little.
Should the police even bother? Probably not, right?
tyburg — I hear you, and I’ve given in to that rage, too. It’s taken me a while, but it is exactly at that moment when you are letting the reciprocal rage govern your actions that you need to take a step back.
And P.S., Not at all endorsing gun-toting in the City, but just knowing What has a bunch of armed friends out there is another reason to keep a lid on the road rage. 😉
P.S. For those having trouble keeping score, snappy is making the following definitional point, and it is a good one:
Racism = racially-biased exercise of power.
Prejudice/bigotry = statements, epithets, name-calling, viewpoints, etc.
Giving meaning to this means understanding that “making it racial” does not equal racism, even if it is about race.
“What if this woman pulled a weapon and started to open fire, then what dumbass????
A nice trip to Kings Country Trauma Center, DOA!!!!
ENY hits it on the head! Leave people alone Jackass!”
I might have said it a bit differently, but this is basically my point. I’m FROM a tough neighborhood. I know all about standing up to tough guys and jerks and have done so plenty of times. Sometimes it unavoidable and you have to deal with the situation. But at other times you can diffuse the whole thing by just walking away. Your life is not worth “winning” an argument with a moron. Some of you have a lot to learn about living in this city.
The woman Tybur encountered was an asshole of the highest order. A prejudiced, epithet tossing asshole. Being black in the city DOES NOT give one the right to act like an effing animal. Tybur should not have engaged/escalated things with this obvious nutball, but that DOES NOT take away from/excuse what she did/said. AT ALL.

Cnaging the subject….Warren Buffett said that Goldman was the counterparty on transactions where he lost a lot of money.
Did he whine and go the the SEC??? NO. His response was “This is business.”

“i’m just gonna leave this one alone.”
