Again, you’re citing requests for i.d. under specific circs, not just walking around looking “ethnic”. Chances are that a perfectly legit citizen w/ limited English language skills could be picked up because he doesn’t have citizenship papers on him.
Don’t forget Cuba DIBS. I remember about 6 years ago I was sitting at the Peculier Pub in the village with a buddy of mine and this Swede who had just come to NYC to work in a socialist bookstore and generally attempt to change all of our minds about capitalism sat next to us. My friend and I were good sports and engaged him on his ideas. He kept referring to Cuba as if it were some kind of socialist paradise. We asked him why it is that every day people risk their lives to make a dangerous and illegal 90 mile journey to America from Cuba – and yet almost no one seems interested in the reverse journey (even though the journey involves no substantial risk of DEATH – just fly there via Mexico or something). He stuttered out a few half answers and eventually gave up. We pointed out that he was completely welcome to come here and try to change our minds, even though we were nearly 100% certain he would fail. We compared this to places like Cuba where you get thrown in jail for that sort of thing. That’s socialism. Just like unions, the basic premise is that it only works if you can force others to join and snuff out dissent.
etson – When I lived in London I was supposed to carry my Alien Registration Card but never did because I was afraid it’d be nicked. Wasn’t ever asked for it anyway.

rob – It’s different because you’re asked for age at a specific place & your credit score is queried when you’re trying to get something.
but our legal birth certificates and citizen status is what is used for when we try to get things as well… like tax payer paid services of police, fire, hospitals, etc. it’s weird. i dont feel like *I* have the right to just waltz into any old other country and start demanding those services that are paid for by tax payers. granted i understand immigration and our country was essentially built on it, but i dont see why we cant modify it to make it more beneficial to america in general.
or we could just make it that you are searched based on income and if you dont have a certain amount of money, youre deported.
if my retarded hello kitty bag gets repeated searched, i dont see why other peoples bags and wallets who are who are not legal citizens shouldnt have to go thru that too. yes, i know i wouldnt be deported and have the right to say no, that’s not the point.

“remember the kitchen down the hall from us when we used to work on the same floor!!!!! Good times.”
I used to go there to escape from flying objects when my old boss was in a bad mood (i.e. most of the time)!
And essentially run the kitchens of most restaurants in EVERY major city across the country.
rob, who’s going to pick the raspberries, the lettuce, fix our roofs and tend to our lawns??? Most unemployed Americans are too lazy to do it.
