  1. I didn’t ask you if you save money, or if you feel ‘entitled’ to health insurance, benson.

I’m asking you to consider what your life, or your family’s life might be like without health insurance, considering their medical needs. It makes me wonder how you can be so resentful of the needs of others. [Extreme situations, aside.]

  2. quote:
Tax “junk” food in an amount as closely as possible equal to the cost to society of the obsesity and other health issues they cause (similar to cigarette taxes).

that would really hurt the shop owners in urban areas where the kids who cant afford the junk food will for sure be stealing more for it and/or stealing money for it.

Legion- get a grip. Republicans are the ones with the issue in this case. A state legislature passed a law that may well be unconstitutional and you’re blaming Obama? Boy- that is some leap of the imagination. Why don’t you stop trying to twist everything into an anti-Obama tirade?

I didn’t drag the President into it,
He stepped into the debate, as he should have.
    Unfortunatley,
he decided to base his argument on the idea that persons illegally here may have had antecedents in the South West before it was US territory.
    Yeah, great argument
If you want to dissolve the nation and give it all back.
No wonder he’s anti Israel as well.

  4. octomom is a bad example. ocotomom has at least provided thousands of hours of freak entertainment to masses of people. octomom has aspirations, dreams, and more importantly motivation.

  5. Instead of healthcare reform:

    1. Stop farm subsidies (the root cause of a lot of health issues).

    2. Massive tort reform to protect the entire health care delivery system from plaintiffs’ lawyers (including medical device manufactureres and pharmaceutical companies).

    3. Tax “junk” food in an amount as closely as possible equal to the cost to society of the obsesity and other health issues they cause (similar to cigarette taxes).

    4. Re-think extent of patent protection for medical devices and pharmaceuticals.

  6. Cobble;

I’m perfectly happy to answer your question.

I am grateful for the insurance my employer provides for me and my wife. I provide them a service, and they (probably mistakenly 🙂 think that it is worth enough to give me a sum of money and some benefits. I can assure you, however, that I do NOT consider it an entitlement, which is what we are talking about here. I live WELL below what I could afford, so that I have enough reserves to deal with life’s contingencies. In this country, we used to call that virtue “thrift”. In other words, my wife’s illness HAS impacted my standard of living. I accept the cards I’ve been dealt, and don’t believe that I am entitled to anything other than what is outlined in the US Constitution.

As for my daughter, I currently pay for her insurance, out of my own pocket.
