As a follow up to my health care post: what I meant is that the prevailing thinking among supporters of the legislation was that those are the options – I was not providing my own views.
“What was / is the purpose of making health insurance coverage compulsory, rather than just universally available?”
Have to force everyone into some kind of a managed system where emergency room visits for non-emergencies (big sap on public resources, very inefficient) aren’t the only way to get help. So you can either truly socialize the system or you do a sort of a hybrid where you force people to be insured and then subsidize insurance for certain people, but leave the system otherwise private (whic is what was done).
Legion, do you not know that Pintos were notorious for exploding when they were rear ended? So I thought the double entendre worked.
Ringo, thanks, I’ll look later. Not 100% sold on buying another house, but it’s under strong consideration again.
Dave, Snark sends regards to the PLUSAs, and regrets. He has a conflict tonight. I told him we’d schedule another gathering in the garden at Sycamore next time chicken comes home to roost.
