  1. I should add that most of the walls in my house required no more prep work than a coat of primer, so that made it easier. There were a couple of walls that had to be skim coated, but even that isn’t particularly hard. Just need to get someone to show you how to do it and practice a little. The whole idea of the super high end paint job is basically another New Yorker circle jerk where people who have endless money to throw at things will make up completely meaningless distinctions between everyday things and imaginary high end versions of everyday things. They make up gold plated service that is pretty much the same goddamn thing but people feel like it’s gotta be worth more because they paid 10x what non-idiots paid for it.

  2. Why did I just get logged out? Very annoying. Usually takes 24 hours.

Dave, I’d take issue with that post ^^^, ‘cept it’s true, though I pretty much get stiff when anyone comes over.

  3. DH, just paint it yourself. No biggie. OK ceiling is harder than walls but just take a trip to Home Depot and get a bunch of drop cloths and the right tools to paint a ceiling. Spend maybe 10 minutes reading basic tips online and you’re done.

I had friends pay several grand to have the walls of their 2 br condo painted. Amazing. I painted my entire 5000 sf house in CT for somewhere between 1k and 2k total (including ALL of the primer, ALL of the paint, drop cloths, masking tape, TONS of rollers, edging brushes, etc etc). I used to come home from work, mix up a vodka tonic and paint until midnight.

  4. “DH, painting ceilings is a bitch – stiff neck from looking up.”

    Just what Michelangelo said.

DH, if you have a PLUSA painting party, I’ll come, though I’ll have to stand on the very top of the ladder to reach the ceiling.
