Is my connection slower or does anyone else notice brownstoner takes is taking longer to refresh?
at home with a stomach flu or something. ick. i pooped 6 times today! and guess what happened to me on saturday at the atlantic ave stop? i had to take that cuz the r on union wasnt working.. i GOT FRISKED BY THE POPO! they made me open my bag. that makes 3 times in harlem and one here. i dont understand what they are looking for but i sure didnt have it in my bag. they made me feel like a criminal, and all the cops were like 10 years younger than me! the lady cop who made me open my bag didnt even inspect anything, at ALL! what’s the point of making someone open their bag if you arent even going to look what’s inside?!?!

I think the volcano thing is too difficult to predict. it will not have the same effect as Mt Pinatubo which was hundreds of times larger…no climate effect. If it stops this week it will be immeasurable. There doesn’t seem to be any geological certainty to any of the predictions as to how long it will continue.
GS….too difficult to tell. it seems to all hinge on the use of the term “selected” wrt how the securities were actually selected and who had a hand in it. Also, these funds were supposedly sold to QIIs. That means Qualified Institutional Investors who, by definition, should know the risks.
DIBS — any thoughts on market reaction over time to volcano, Goldman? What’s driving it down this morning?
Now I think I understand why Goldman didn’t settle this quietly. It’s too serious a charge. SEC could not agree to a “without admission of fault” type of settlement, and Goldman couldn’t settle if it had to admit to a fraud of the kind that’s alleged. What’s the chatter on how widespread this may turn out to be?
SEC, like any prosecutor, can tend to overread facts once they think an actor is bad, but usually they like to make an example of littler fish to scare the big fish. I have to think they were belts and suspenders before they went ahead with such a serious charge on such a big fish.
