“isn’t half the fun of kids is making them do things they don’t understand yet,”
I think that’s exactly what got my panties in a bunch. Just seems so wrong to me. When watching it, I couldn’t help but wonder “what if that were my niece” (who is 5 btw)?
Jackal, reporting in from Kansas City. I am desperate for anything resembling a vegetable. I woke up last night in a cold sweat screaming “don’t fry it!!! Good God get it away from the fryer!” I went to church yesterday in a really Jesus-y midwestern church. All of the old ladies had the same bluish white hair. The men use lots of hair product and I’m pretty sure a few of them are secretly gay for each other even as then nod silently to racist Obama jokes. I have gained at least 5 pounds in the past week. Golf pants no longer look funny to me. Using the word “freedom” in a random sentence now seems to render it a complete and logical political statement. The light is dimming and the walls are starting to crumble in the little place inside where I go when I am eating velveeta dip with potato chips. This may be my last communication before the madness takes over and I turn on the TIVO’d “American Stories” and watch it over and over with the little Jackals.
Arkady, disquieting is a very good word for it.
donatella, except for Rendell, years and years of bad democratic mayors are the primary reeason for the situatioon in Philly. Rendell started a lot of change but then jumped at the chance of being governor. Street came along after him and pushed Philly back into the old patronage, bullshit ways.
“i assume an hour and a half from soho to park slope?”
Sounds about right, *rob*. Maybe a little less. It takes me 45-50 minutes door-to-door, from Brooklyn Heights to the World Financial Center.
Snappy – you need to lighten up. That’s funny shit. Even if they weren’t professional kid actors, isn’t half the fun of kids is making them do things they don’t understand yet, but are REALLY funny?! The things we’ve gotten my nieces and nephews to say! Man o’ man that’s funny stuff!
Oh, and I don’t have a Tybur6’s XXXX of the Day yet… I have a double chocolate chip muffin for later in the morning; that might get my juices flowin’
There’s something really disquieting about that piece, Snaps. Given that kids are arrested for having water guns at school, the idea that adults helped mount that production is weird. Kids, themselves, playing those kinds of games is natural but rehearsing them to act out wretched stereotypes is unwise in my opinion. (And get a load of the headline along the backdrop – WTF?!)
II spent the month and a half before the 08 election in North Philly – wow, is that Planet of the Apes! I never really saw depopulation in progress. Blocks and blocks of wierd moonscape of poor urban wreckage. Some blocks had half of the buildings empty and falling down.
Pending Home Sale, both MOM and YOY, were well above expectations.
