Just to clarify, when I say New Haven is a complete shit hole I was referring to the downtown and I meant in a very relative sense… i’m not backtracking, mind you, just clarifying… this is beautiful picturesque Connecticut after all. And New Haven is a terribly depressing exception. Like the outskirts of Rochester *without* the excuse of a crippled economy.
Tybur, I be careful about offending anthro majors. They know the curse rituals of obscure peoples. You’ll be up to your neck in boils and sneezing for weeks.
I second CGar’s opinion of New Haven. It ain’t that bad. There are some beautiful sections of town, and I agree, parts look like Ditmas Park. And sadly, some parts look like the worst of Brownsville, too. It has the best and worst of urban America there. I have to say, they’ve really improved much of the downtown in the past 30 years. Chapel Square Mall was a classic 1970’s mistake in urban planning, as was the stadium, which they tore down in the late 90’s. Both were bad architecture, to begin with, and both did nothing for integrating downtown commerce with the rest of the city, they cut it off, and isolated it. That resulted in many of downtown’s streets becoming ghost towns, with no commerce, no street traffic, and urban decay.
Just checking in for a second after being out all day (by the beach!), yes, Dave was sniffing my new Furla Professional Cognac Leather Briefcase, i.e. bag. He requested that I sniff his new shoes. Very leathery smelling. Shiny too.
Was I snob bashing the Ozarks?! I just find Missouri to be a very horrible place. I’ve been all over this country and I’m faaaar from a NYC booster, I just happen to live here. As far as the Ozarks, maybe i’ve visited at the wrong times of the year… or something. (Though I’ve been there a lot)
If I could get the job I want, there are MANY places I’d rather live than NYC. Western Wyoming, Central Colorado, Chicago, coastal Maine, Savannah…. to name a few. I’ve found all of those places to be beautiful and filled with people that are friendly and welcoming — Missouri, not so much.
“And right now I have to get back to work because Cobblesnaps is breathing down my neck and threatening to revoke my special PLUSA status if I don’t produce. They are pure EVIL!!!!!”
