I see now that D.C. is a popular suggestion this morning.
Dave, I agree about Williamsburg. I love the architecture, so it was nice to visit and walk around, but not worth a lot of time beyond that. I stopped with friends on a road to Florida. It was right up there with “South of the Border”.
try Niagara, all the kids are getting an Easter break in two weeks so it will be April by then.
it’s one of the natural wonders of the world and never fails to impress, especially if seen for the first time.
stay on the Canadian side for the best activities,
The Marriott has family packages for short stays and each room has a beautiful view of the Horseshoe falls.
at this time of year you get to see the massive ice flows going over the edge, it ‘s spectacular.
I’m at a conference on the 16 floor of macys and what did I come across but an old gas jet in the hall. Amazing. I took a photo but of course can’t post it on the OT.
CMU, take him to D.C. and Arlington. A great trip with a 12-year-old who doesn’t like a lot of outdoor activities. No shortage of great museums and monuments.
When I was 12 I went on a really great father-son bonding trip with my dad. We put the canoe on top of the pickup truck and drove up to Maine, then took a ferry to Nova Scotia. Spent 10 days or so driving around Nova Scotia and Newfoundland (another ferry ride), fishing in random lakes and rivers (caught some really big sea-run trout) and camping wherever we happened to end up each night. The memories of that trip have stuck with me more than any museum he ever took me to.
CMU – DC is great at that age. You can spend 2 days in Air & Space alone if he’s at all geeky. Lots of other museums of various kinds – media, spy museum, Ford’s Theatre, etc. Memorials are memorable & the Zoo is pretty decent.
go on a detroit slum tour!!!! i wanna go on one of those really badly, but i sorta kinda find it tacky to go and gawk at people and a place down on it’s luck..

Motels in Maryland & VA suburbs probably have rooms. MD’s probably better for using public transportation.
