oh wait, just saw that cmu junior is a non-outdoors type. My first reaction is that getting outdoors might be great for both of you (a basic whitewater rafting trip fails to be surprisingly enjoyable to non-outdoors types less than half of the time, I would guess). But if I had to suggest good indoor activities, I would have to agree with everyone else with the DC museum reccomendations. Air and Space is great for kids of that age.
Philadelphia has lots of historic sites & the Franklin Inst. is excellent.

oooo how bout Newport, RI? Not sure if all of the Mansions are open at this time but worth checking out. Might be on a chilly side over there though.
