    Of course they are. That’s because despite their U.S. operations, the majority of those makers’ heavy manufacturing is still done overseas in low-wage countries.

    “Union legacy issues” are certainly a significant cost to U.S. auto manufacturers. But to say they are “the deciding factor” is an oversimplification.

  2. So I went to the protest but we were herded so far from the action there wasn’t much point to staying. Media were across the entire cut of the railyards from demonstrators – plus there was going to be a 2-hour wait until the ceremony started.
    Went to the BBG to chill out instead.

  3. Disagree on that one Dave. No way we could produce the goods at rates China produces them and have a decent quality of living at the same time. Unions did ruin a lot of good things in recent history and I agree that they generally do more bad than good these days but at some point in the past, they were a good thing.

    We’ve discussed it enough here. I can’t argue it eloquently enough so I’ll keep out of that one.
