People that travel abroad with flags on their backpacks usually stay in hostels. They are not the types of travelers that any country really wants, bumming around on the cheap. There’s a whole section of Bangkok where they stay and it ain’t pretty.
I don’t get it. Why ask a bunch of Americans off the street what the rest of the world thinks about us??? Have you ever seen “Jaywalking?” The average American couldn’t pinpoint MOST foreign countries on a map.
Yeah, Biff, I met some of those fake Canadians abroad. They crack me up. me: so wait, you’re canadian. them: no, I’m American, I just don’t want people to hate me.
Biffers – I agree for the most part but at the time of the fairly rotten takeovers of Texas & California, it was largely accepted globally that “might made right”. Nowadays standards have changed & our nefarious doings are frowned on but so are those of other countries.
“Rob, I care. I hate travelling abroad and having people think I suck because I’m American. Also, if people hate us, they are more likely to try to kill us.”
So true. I’m surprised people actually buy into the government trying to convince us that entire groups of people are evil and jealous of our lifestyle, which is why they are after us.
Jessi, do what some of my American friends do and sew a Canadian flag onto your luggage and backpack and you’ll be welcomed everywhere you go. 🙂
Legion — That’s a really stupid poll you cited. “Americans think the standing of the U.S. dropped during the first 13 months of Mr. Obama’s presidency.” REALLY? Who cares what *Americans* think about our standing in the world!? How about asking THE WORLD what they think of our country?!

Biff, that’s a good idea – better than me claiming I’m from China. Canada is conflict neutral – like the Swiss

I dunno what’s worse…Traveling as an American or traveling as a Mongolian (with a goat)….

Talk about retarded navel gazing.
