  1. thanks ET, very insightful words. the thing is honestly have no passion, drive, etc to be/do anything. i just want money. lots of it. that’s my only motivational factor, and it probably sounds like a horrible thing, but whatever. im tried of being so broke-ass. part of me is thinking of totally turning to the darkside. i mean why not?

  2. “The only path to upward mobility takes one of five things, or a possible combination of them, all of which i dont possess.”

*rob*, I think it takes most of the five things on your list. I don’t think “3.) lots of money” is a determining factor in someone’s upward mobility nor should it be in yours. Lots and lots of people have come from no money or poverty and succeeded. Success is how you define it for your self. Don’t gauge your success by others.

    1) connections and a support network help. You build a network as you meet more and more people. Someone you meet today, while they may seem irrelevant might be that person that is a connection to a ‘job’, a ‘career’, etc.

    2) raw talent – everyone has something they are good at. And don’t tell me you aren’t good at anything. Yes, you are! You may not realize it yet. But you are good at something. For some, it takes years for the realization.

    4) passion – I think this is key. I truly believe in doing something you are passionate about. Again for some they might not realize yet what they are passionate about.

    5) insane luck – When I started my second career, I was fortunate enough to have met someone who has become one of my good friends in the industry.
He said a famous quote to me:
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
While your working your butt off trying to make things happen, it may seem all for naught and may wonder why am I bothering. But believe me, it’s all for a purpose. There are life lessons in everything we do. And when you do run into some ‘luck’ you’ll be prepared.

I don’t talk about my second career on here much. But I have learned that no matter how hard you have to strive, if you have the passion and eagerness and no matter how often you get knocked down you need to find the strength and courage within yourself to persevere. Doors will close in your face, people will reject and shut you out, they may not have nice things to say; BUT if you are truly passionate about what you’re doing instead of letting all the negative affect you and cowering in a corner feeling sorry for oneself. You pick yourself up, say to yourself, I am worthy of success. I’m doing what I love and you go out there and open your own doors, proof to people that you are talented and you will succeed.

For some it takes years of hard work to get to success, but they don’t give up.
AND don’t let money be the motivation.
I love what I do and it’s a daily struggle to succeed in this 2nd career but my passion keeps me going. I don’t make much money AND I don’t care. I’m not doing it for the money but the satisfaction I get while doing it.

*rob* find something you love to do. You may not know it now or tomorrow and you may discover it in a few years by chance. But when you realize your path, don’t look back and go for it!

  3. “DIBS, seems we’ve literally been talking about this for two years now. Let’s just do it!”

So you guys pick a date; give me turnout instructions; and I’ll act as whip for the night.

Dave, I emailed him, and conveyed the message. Just cuz he’s mad at me, shouldn’t take it out on you.

  4. “CGar! You’ve settled in enough to be able to join us?!”

I’m in major withdrawal, Arkady. Have to fit in a little OT time. But I’ll rely on the kindness of strangers to tell me if I’m missing any other interesting threads.

I understand there was nothing but crap in the OT yesterday, so I guess I didn’t miss much.
