  1. Rob, upward mobility ain’t all that. The important things in life are friends and family, health insurance, and enough cash in your pocket for the simple things in life like beer. The rest is gravy. The people I know who are the most successful are not always the most happy, and what’s more, some of them seem to spend way too much time working. I’m not sure when they watch their bad television, read books, or wander aimlessly just for the hell of it. Your commute is decent, your dog(s) are happy and you live in a nice (albeit annoying) neighborhood. That’s not so bad!

  2. on second thought, i might actually apply for this census thing… it’s all about connections!!! who knows who’s door ill be knocking on!

honestly tho, i think it’s kinda nosey of the government to do this anyway. plus there’s no way to get an accurate measure.

  3. ooooh i dont know if i wanna do census work tho. you could get stuck having to knock door to door in the projects!

please note.. im not against the projects, but the last thing i wanna do is knock door to door inside of them.

  4. “Jessi, THIS is a long MM piece.”

And a good one. I think you have something with the architecture/history angle. I hope you can make it work. You know you’ve got fans.

jb — with those remarks and benson away, I hope your defenses are fortified this morning.

rob — What MM and ET said. Meanwhile, why don’t you add some pet sitting to your portfolio in the short run? As long as you can find your way to people’s homes, you are good and responsible with this, you can control schedule and work load, and it’s all pocket cash. Your day gig will keep you off the daytime dog walking, but vacations, weekends, people need pet care.

  5. *rob* and others.
    Case in point:
“1.) connections and a support network of friends, family, and acquaintances.”

You may not realize it, but this blog/OT has become more than just people spewing random thoughts and comments. It has become a network. A ‘connection’ of friends. People giving advice at times of trouble, offer compassionate words at times of sorrow, encouraging words, people have physically pitched in at time of need, etc. etc. etc.
    That’s a support network!

  6. rob – Did you get the email I sent about census work?

“All people have to do is call 718-360-5150 to schedule to take the test. Or, show up at the Big Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza between 1:30 and 1:45 this Sunday, with two forms of ID (Photo – Passport, License, State ID plus a Social Security Card, or Birth Certificate.) It’s that simple. Due to the shortage, just about any passing score will net a job.”
