  1. Also.. I can’t help it, but how does this logic even hold? At all? If you believe in a free market, people can grow what they want. And if they want to grow a “boutique” crop and sell it locally, to liberals even, fine. How can anyone object? Oh, because people are starving? Well then I guess the author thinks everyone who is out there growing roses or peonies or christmas trees needs to get with it and plant some frickin’ corn bcs people are starving? C’mon. Inane.

  2. DIBS, that article is completely nuts. The vaaaaaaaast majority of corn, for example, is not organic. Far from it. Never mind how much of our farm land isn’t cultivated at all bcs of our insane govt policies. Nevermind the ethanol/ADM scam, a fuel that can’t be shipped long distances. A person can be fed for a year on the corn it takes to fill up a car with ethanol so … bullshit on that one.

You know what you should worry about? The very recent EXPLOSION of genetically engineered crops. In the year 2000, 25% of our corn was GE. Now it’s 85%. And it’s happened to all our crops with very limited outside testing. I mean, we don’t any reason not to trust ADM and friends, right?

And you’re worried about organic? You want to blame the Whole Foods liberals? Puh-lease. That’s Sarah Palin thinkin’ right there.

  3. “one of the good things about rent controlled apartments is that it keeps a lot of old school nyc nutcases around.”

It also limits supply and drives up the prices for everyone else.

I’d much rather have an extra 200 bucks a month in my pocket than get to listen to some old nutjob in duane reade yell at the employee that they don’t have anymore coupons.

  4. Mopar I was there once a while ago. I remember learning about the construction of the subway and all the parts of the system that are no longer there – like the els. I think there is something there on the Myrtle Avenue el.

  5. You always have an interesting take on things, Rob. You are right about the colorful characters who live in those rent controlled places — it is a strange mind set though, those people are chained to those places.

  6. one of the good things about rent controlled apartments is that it keeps a lot of old school nyc nutcases around. you know, the people that make living here sometimes worth the money you pay? they can be very entertaining. i can’t say the same for 20 year olds paying 3000 dollars a month for a one bedroom in the Avalon buildings.
