The rumor is that Carlos Slim, Mexican billionaire, is buying it.

…I guess it was buy the NYTimes or break their legs for defaulting on the loan he gave them at 20% interest.
Let’s hope he can right their course. They’ve been veering into rag territory lately.
Fire Krug and Frank or hire Charles Krauthammer and Norm Podhoretz to mix it up a bit.
Peets was the first gourmet WA coffee shoppe, some of its originals split to form Starbucks…rest is history. Peets now has about 100 stores, and used to be my client. The entire IT staff was non-coffee drinkers (!) so when I’d visit the brewery I’d get all their free allotment I could take.
Nope. Delivery guys came again this morning and realized they needed more men for the job (don’t ask). That was the third fridge and fourth or fifth visit since the saga began a week ago.
We’ve been promised a full team will return today to make another attempt. I’m wondering what will come first, a working fridge in our kitchen or the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge Park or the Brooklyn Nets arena.
mopar, I’ve learned over the years that anything visible or cosmetic needs to be thoroughly supervised. That’s why architects get paid more than what many people think they should be paid, otherwise, sans architect, you need to completely spell out and supervise every aspect. Plumbers can be the worst, cutting through joists and ruining cosmetic details like that without any forethought. Oftentimes these guys just work by the motto “Good enough.”
I’m getting really bummed because every time we try to improve something, we make it worse.
Latest example is I asked someone to replace three valves, a speedy, and a faucet, and without asking me they cut out and reconfigured huge sections of pipe. ARGGGGGGGGGGAUUUGHHHHHHHHH!
It was attractive, original, rigid pipe that was external and visible and functioning just fine and now it looks like a big mess and is making funny noises.
Although the water is still on and nothing burst, so I suppose I should be grateful.
