Biff, we got a lemon fridge in Philly about 10 years ago. We worked with the local appliance guy in center City and he took real good care of us. Seems his actual reputation lived up to what we had heard, which is always nice. It’s a real pain in the ass to deal with that kind of crap!!!

DIBS, for sure we would have known. Mrs C is totally on top of that kind of stuff. We knew he was BS’ing, but figured we were going to tip anyway, so we just did. As it turns out, Mrs C spoke to the sales guy, who is a really decent, nice person, and he was pissed about what happened and said we can call his cell anytime if something like that happens.
Kens, as for the fridge, that’s the worst part! Seems we got a lemon and they now have to come back and remove it and replace with another one. Which won’t happen today because of the weather. I can’t wait to see if it’s the same delivery guys and if they ask again for a tip. I think I’ll have a different response for them if they do.
The only time I was shaken down was by 6 burly Israelis from Moishe’s Movers in 1992. I gave what I thought was a very generous tip – I always try and tip generously, and err on the side of tipping too much. They leave and go down to their van, and 10 minutes later, they’re back in my apartment. I thought they’d left something in the truck so I opened the door. Next thing I know I’m surrounded by 6 Israelis who are much taller and bigger than me (a given I realize), telling me that my tip wasn’t big enough. Of course, I gave them more money! They were all but literally shaking me down. I’ve bad-mouthed Moishe’s ever since, and never used them again, and I’ve had quite a few moves since then.
DeLepp, my broker likes the building, but said the light isn’t great. I’ll check it out Sunday at the OH.

Adam, I’m actually toying with the idea of actual retirement and moving to PA in the next year or three so I’ve put any refi on hold.
