A friend of mine bought a very expensine A Lange & Sohn watch (actually three of us bought these as investment…and they’ve done quite well.) He worked at the trading floor at Solomon bros. in Hong Kong and someone pointed out to the boss that my friend Chris had bought this watch that the boss was thinking about buying.
Chris was absolutely livid for this disclosure because now, to save face, the boss would have to buy a more expensive watch and that would come out of Chris’ bonus.

Is that why he’s your ex-bf? That’s a pretty big gesture for a first gift – difficult to top that in the years to come.
JB, if they haven’t sent you pic’s of baby, invited to baby shower, etc. subsequently, you’ve been black-listed. if that $100 was a check, they probably complained at the bank – “No, it’s one thousand; she mis-wrote with one hundred; please cash as one thousand; please”

Clocks are bad luck gifts for the Chinese but watches are okay.
And the recipient has to give the donor a penny if the gift is a knife – otherwise the friendship might be severed.

[SIGH] Always a groomsman, never a groom.
One would never give a clock or a watch at a Japanese wedding, or really as a gift ever. it could stop one day and that’s bad luck, meaning “death.”
