Hey Slopey, I think I’ll be in the Slope on Saturday evening to meet my friend who lives on President St. I’d definitely go early and meet you for a brewsky if the plans don’t fall through.
Biff, what really sucks these days is the new subway cars. Back in the day the motorman compartment was a lil’ square box on the right of the first car. There was a window in the front so the kids and the train freaks could look out and see what the engineer saw. A lot more fun back then.
I see no one has recommended the #1 line. It ends right by Van Cortland Park. There are a number of interesting stops that could be made along the way.
116th Street, you can see the Columbia campus, I’d especially recommend the interior of Riverside Church. You used to be able to take an elevator to the top, and walk up thru the carillon. There are all kinds of other minor attractions in the nabe, Jewish Theological Seminary, Tomb of the Amiable Child, Grants Tomb, etc.
At 135th Street you have that great playground atop the sewage treatment plant.
181st Street would also make a nice stop for lunch, the heart of Washington Heights, a lotta nice Dominican restaurants.
Inwood Park is also worth a visit, it contains the only remaining old growth forest in Manhattan, I believe, and it has some actual caves! (Let’s hope rob wasn’t in them lately)
Since PLUSAs have been so helpful today with social activities, here’s mine:
I have about 4 free hours solo on Saturday from about 4-8. I will be in the Slope at 4 and need to be in Williamsburg by about 7:50. I know I could exercise, buy some jeans, etc. But anyone have any more novel ideas? Anyone want to meet for a beer?
slopefarm, Jon probably hired a super conservative lawyer who is justifying his pay by requesting to thoroughly review very forum posts to see if it present any legal exposure, etc. prior to post appearing to gen’l public
